What courses are available?

There are various study options available for individuals interested in pursuing a career in golf management and related fields. 

Two study programs are available on campus, located at the PGA Learning Hub in Sandhurst. Students can enroll in the Diploma of Golf Management, which is a one-year full-time course.

Students choosing to study on-campus, can also enroll in the Certificate III Sport Athlete and Golf Development Program, which is available for intake from 2024 onwards and entails one year of full-time study.

The PGA Institute also offers several online courses. The Diploma of Golf Management can be completed in two years online, providing flexibility for students.

The Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management and the Diploma of Business are offered online, with each course spanning two years. These online programs allow individuals to access education and acquire skills in the golf industry and business management without the need for on-campus attendance.

What are the enrollment dates?

Do I have to study on-campus?

No, we have a variety of study options available. Our on-campus offerings include the Diploma of Golf Management (one year) and the Certificate III Sport Athlete and Golf Development Program (one year). 

The Diploma of Golf Management can be completed in two years online, providing flexibility for students, as well as the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (two years) and the Diploma of Business (two years). 

We understand that different individuals have varying preferences and circumstances, which is why we provide both on-campus and remote learning options.

What does the Diploma of Golf Management involve?

The PGA Institute delivers Australia’s only 10810NAT Diploma of Golf Management qualification. Delivered over one year of study, students will undertake a program of academic study and golf development, to take the first steps towards a career in golf. Throughout their study, students get access to a number of leaders from the golf industry. Students will also spend time with PGA Golf Professionals who have coached a number of golf’s leading talents. They will gain insight from golf managers, consultants and industry professionals, who will provide them with current skills and knowledge for becoming a golf management specialist.

What does the Certificate III in Sport (Athlete) & PGA Performance Program involve?

The PGA Institute together with the PGA Academy offers students the opportunity to study golf in Melbourne undertaking SIS30421 Certificate III in Sport- Athlete in conjunction with The Golf Development Program. Our unique program offers students the chance to learn the best practice and skills for use within the sport of golf whilst gaining a Nationally recognised qualification.

What does the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management involve?

The BSB60420 – Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management is a management qualification that incorporates best practice principles for use in the club management industry. The study content has been chosen to reflect the education needs of the golf course and club management industry, covering a broad range of club management subjects for managers in today’s business climate.

What does the Diploma of Business involve?

The PGA Institute is a leader in education for Australian Golf. We are driven by a student-centric approach with a focus on preparing our graduates for a career in the golf industry. Our unique programs offer students the chance to learn the best practice and skills for use within the sport of golf and in business. Our focus is to provide students the best chance to meet their professional goals, with graduates holding a range of positions in industry and business. The Diploma of Business is ideal for students who: 

  • Are currently employed in the golf industry or club industry and are looking to advance their career 
  • Are seeking to gain a formal qualification validating their current knowledge and skills 
  • Are considering enrolling in higher education at university

What pathway options are available?

The Diploma of Golf Management program offers clear pathways for students to pursue further education in related fields. 

Through partnerships with higher education institutions like Holmesglen Tafe, Deakin University and Griffiths University, graduates of the Diploma of Golf Management can choose to continue their studies. We can now offer conditional entry into bachelor degrees and reduction in course duration through Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) due to the PGA Institute’s Nationally Accredited Courses.

Students who complete the Diploma of Golf Management may also be eligible to enter the PGA of Australia’s Membership Pathway Program, with advanced recognition for the completion of the Diploma qualification. Upon successful completion of all program requirements, the Membership Pathway Program leads to Full Membership (Vocational) of the PGA, translating an individual’s passion for the sport into a wide variety of career opportunities in the golf industry. Study in the PGA Membership Pathway Program is a combination of employment, on the job training, face-to-face training schools and online learning.

Withdrawal

Withdrawal from the course are to be submitted in writing to our student administration for approval. 

The deferral or suspension of studies, for students during the course of their studies may only be granted under certain limited circumstances. For consideration of deferral/suspension of enrolment students must:

  • Apply in writing to the Senior Manager using the PGA Institute Deferring, Suspending or Canceling an Enrolment form available on the Fairway 
  • Provide documentary evidence to support the application
  • Clearly demonstrate that the deferral or suspension of studies is on compassionate grounds or compelling circumstances
  • For overseas students wishing to cancel their course and transfer to another provider they must abide by their student visa requirements and requirements of the Overseas Student Transfer policy and procedure

Special circumstances

PGA Institute can only defer or suspend the enrolment of the student on the grounds of compassionate or compelling circumstances which could include, but are not limited to:

  • Serious illness or injury, where a medical certificate states that the student was unable to attend classes
  • Bereavement of close family members 
  • Major political upheaval or natural disaster in the home country requiring emergency travel when this has impacted on the student’s studies
  • A traumatic experience which could include: 
  • involvement in, or witnessing of a serious accident; 
  • witnessing or being the victim of a serious crime (these cases should be supported by police or psychologist’s reports) 
  • Inability to begin studying on the course commencement date due to delay in receiving a student visa or
  • Any other circumstances the PGA Institiute thinks is a compassionate or compelling circumstance
